Root canal therapy with Dr. Kanumilli can preserve your natural teeth.
With root canal treatments, your natural tooth can be restored and can function just like any other tooth for the rest of your life, ensuring comfortable chewing and a natural appearance.
Root canal or endodontic treatment is necessary when the inside, or pulp of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected. The pulp contains the nerves and blood vessels, and it is through the pulp that temperature and pain are perceived. The inflammation or infection can have many causes but mostly are the result of deep decay or trauma.
During the root canal procedure, the infected portion of the root is removed, the infection is treated, and a dental filling is placed in the empty portion of the root. A crown is often placed over the tooth to stabilize it and keep it from breaking, since dental root canals affect the structural integrity of the tooth. After a root canal procedure, you can expect soreness and tooth sensitivity. Avoid chewing on the tooth until it has fully healed. A common misconception is that root canal treatment is a painful experience when in actuality, it’s quite the opposite. Root canal treatment doesn’t cause pain, it relieves it.
I had a wonderful experience at Aldie. I came here with quite a bit of pain. The pain was relieved immediately with zero complications. I’d highly recommend the whole staff here. It felt like having a cavity filled!
– Frank, Brambleton, VA
After letting a cavity go for too long, Frank was looking at having root canal therapy done. “I hadn’t been to the dentist in a while, and the cavity just kept getting worse,” he says. “So I came to Dr. Kanumilli for help.”
Dr. Kanumilli conducted a dental exam, where she discovered one of Frank’s molars had a deep cavity that was beyond repair. When she told Frank he’d need a root canal to save the tooth, he was initially hesitant.
“Everyone hears bad things about root canals so I was immediately skeptical of getting it done.” However, once having the procedure with Dr. Kanumilli, Frank says he worried for nothing. “It was so much easier than I thought. Now I know a root canal is nothing to be afraid of thanks to Dr. Kanumilli!”
